Stabat Mater
by Giocchino Rossini
April 25, 2007
On Wednesday evening, April 25th, 2007, NYOP held its final concert of the season 2006-2007 in collaboration with Hunter College School of Music.
In the large Assembly Hall of Hunter College, a huge crowd heard first the William Tell Overture of Rossini, conducted by Nicholas G.M. Ross and played by the Hunter College Symphony. After a short intermission, the attentive and enthusiastic audience heard a gripping performance of Rossini’s Stabat Mater with Hunter College Chorus, Hunter College Symphony and Soloists, Amy Butterworth, Soprano, Heather Johnson, Alto, Jeffrey Picon, Tenor and Michael Ventura, Bass. Maestro Ross also conducted the Stabat Mater.
The NYOP Board provided a reception following the performance for performers and attendees.
We are so proud of our singers/soloists, who sang beautifully and brought Rossini’s music to life.
NYOP would also like to thank Hunter College for the opportunity to present this work in the space provided and to work with such wonderful young student musicians at Hunter College School of Music.
